DGS Utility Bill
BITHGROUP won a coveted contract with the State of Maryland to provide energy management services that will facilitate better management of the State’s energy resources more accurately and efficiently. Maryland is committed to reducing state government energy consumption 15% by 2015. To do that, Maryland's Department of General Services hired BITHGROUP Technologies to create and implement a statewide utility database that tracks energy performance for all state facilities. This centralized energy management system compiles comprehensive energy consumption and cost data for 55 different agencies in the State of Maryland. The objectives of this ongoing engagement include the following mandates:

  • Provide efficiently manage energy resources for State agencies and the University System of Maryland
  • Accurately compile energy cost and consumption data
  • Host and manage online energy and utility bill processing
  • Provide timely and accurate data reporting for the Governor, General Assembly and agencies
  • Support de-regulated procurement activities, and energy efficiency initiatives
  • Wide area network engineering
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the budget deficit for the State of Maryland
State agencies, including the University System of Maryland, collectively have approximately 15,000 electric and gas accounts, and others including fuel oil, propane, and district stream. Currently, approximately 17 energy providers serve state facilities, including regulated utilities, regional cooperatives and de-regulated suppliers.

Through our comprehensive suite of services, BITHGROUP is also currently enhancing business processes for the State of Maryland that will ultimately lead to energy reduction goals as set forth by Governor Martin O’Malley in the EmPOWER Maryland initiative introduced on July 2, 2007.

The DGS project is one of the reasons Maryland was ranked the 12th most energy-efficient state by The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. They named Maryland as one of the most improved states, moving from 20th place in 2006 to 12th in 2008.

City of Baltimore - Mayor’s Office IT
BITHGROUP Technologies, Inc. is currently providing technical, operational, engineering, and help desk support as the Enterprise Service Provider of the City of Baltimore government. The environment consists of over 26,000 employees (school system included), over 5000 personal computers, over 100 servers, 1 Data Center, fiber-optic ring, 800 MHz communications system, multiple end user office applications and advanced systems that help support unique government services. On this engagement, the BITHGROUP team provides the Mayor, CIO, 46 different agencies and departments, the necessary systems and management support for their technology and communications infrastructure.

Maryland Vehicle Administration - Digital Imaging
BITHGROUP Technologies, Inc. is currently providing technical and engineering support for the implementation of the MVA Document Imaging and Workflow System (DIWS) project. Staff was responsible for installing all required hardware, software, and communications components.  Staff was also responsible for the analysis, design, development, and deployment of all imaging, workflow, and intelligent character recognition, bar-coding and traditional Information Technology applications. 

Specific tasks performed included:

Help Desk Support
Provide support to end users on a variety of issues. Identify, research, and resolve technical problems. Respond to telephone calls, email and personnel requests for technical support. Engineers also track and monitor the problem to insure a timely resolution.

LAN/WAN Support
Technical staff supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN/WAN. Recommend and schedule repairs. Provide end users support for all LAN-based applications and install and configure workstations.

Network Administration
BITHGROUP technical professionals install, build, administer, configure and maintain networks. Staff performs system backups on internal network servers.

PC Maintenance
BITHGROUP technical staff maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems and all hardware and computer peripherals. Our PC technicians document, maintain, upgrade or replace hardware and software systems. Support and maintain user account information including rights, security and user groups.

Systems Administration
Install new software releases, system upgrades; evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems. Our staff also maintains data files and monitors the system configuration to ensure data integrity.

Maryland State Department of Education - CCATS - Help Desk & Project Manager
BITHGROUP Technologies, Inc. provides consulting services to the Department of Human Resources for the State of Maryland in the implementation of their Child Care Administration Management Information System (CCAMIS). During the implementation phase, BITHGROUP Technologies also assisted with training local and remote staff. BITHGROUP Technologies also provided project management, analysis, troubleshooting, integration, acquisition, installation, operations, maintenance, documentation, and administration services for CCAMIS. Additionally, BITHGROUP Technologies provided on-site technical assistance in the following areas:

  • Implemented CCAMIS-I throughout all 24 jurisdictions.
  • Developed and provided training materials.
  • Conducted network analysis to determine network bottlenecks and developed alternative solutions to address unacceptable application response times.
  • Analyzed and assessed potential equipment problems for both hardware and software and determined what technical changes were required to ensure that the equipment would remain operational.
  • Performed performance and capacity assessments on RS6000 platform.
  • Assisted with the implementation planning and local coordination, for remote users in the downtown Baltimore area as well as the other 23 state jurisdictions.
  • Provided weekly status report to track all activities while keeping management aware of any major changes to workload.
  • Provided a support line to assist employees and remote users via the telephone. In some cases, general educational materials were sent to the users.
  • Prepared the Acceptance Test Evaluation Criteria, managed the acceptance testing process.
  • Assessed and reported on the Acceptance Test results of the data conversion process.
  • Prepared Pilot Test Readiness checklists.
  • Tested hardware and software, performed required maintenance, and provided periodic project control reports.
  • Conducted various training sessions to provide the employees with new skills to assist them in their jobs in using CCAMIS-I.
  • Recorded and distributed meeting materials from the Joint Appointed Design (JAD) Sessions.
  • Compiled, analyzed, condensed, and prepared Purchase of Care Deliverables for the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR)

Maryland Vehicle Administration - Kiosk
BITHGROUP Technologies is currently providing testing and technical services for the MVA 3rd Generation Kiosk project.  Responsibilities on this project include testing the kiosk hardware and software and testing the new and improved Internet which replaces the eMVA kiosk store and testing the Intranet to be used by MVA employees. BITHGROUP will also be conducting various training sessions for the Kiosk, Internet and Intranet sites.  The staff is responsible for supplying technical services in the following areas:

  • Multimedia development (using JAVA)
  • System development testing from development through implementation
  • User acceptance testing
  • Final acceptance testing
  • Preparing the acceptance test evaluation criteria
  • Managing the acceptance testing process
  • Problem tracking and reporting of system Issues

National Institutes of Health - Help Desk
BITHGROUP Technologies, Inc. has been tasked by the Center for Information Technology (CIT), through a prime contractor (SAIC) to provide and support a wide range of computer and telecommunication resources to a community of over 20,000 customers at NIH, and other federal agencies. CIT operates the NIH Computer Center, supporting the NIH telecommunications infrastructure, and offers training, guidance and support to scientists and administrators throughout NIH in the effective use of personal workstations, LANs and associated automation technology. BITHGROUP Technologies provides support for this critical infrastructure that serves as the central system for the ongoing support for its users. 

BITHGROUP Technologies also provides support assisting in troubleshooting PC, Macintosh, COTS software and some custom software systems used by the NIH computing community, CIT and Division of Customer Support. Our team of help desk support specialist provides day to day phone support via the helpdesk, adapting to the frequent changing of technologies and the daily evolving requirements of the NIH.  BITHGROUP Technologies personnel provides this support working closely with SAIC personnel, government employees, and with contract staff who are involved with desktop support services. 

Dept. of Army- Help Desk/Utility Bill Analysis
BITHGROUP Technologies, Inc. supported the monthly business cycle including invoice processing and vendor payment, coordinating and consulting with on site Government staff, and providing financial and billing information to customers. BITHGROUP reviewed, validated and paid customer consolidated wireless invoices for service providers listed below:

  • Verizon Wireless
  • SkyTel

Housing Authority of Plainfield - Wireless Engineering and Security, Network Engineering, Systems Design and Integration
BITHGROUP Technologies, created and iImplemented an Infrastructure Upgrade Plan for the Housing Authority of Plainfield (HAPNJ). Housing Authority employees were faced with an extremely slow network as well as network outages. BITHGROUP Technologies implemented an infrastructure that addressed these issues. The network covered three locations with approximately 30 employees managing 1200 rental dwellings. The infrastructure called for three wireless networks connected across a private Frame-Relay line to central servers that run the Housing Authority Management software (Tenmast). Project Deliveries included:

  • DHCP server installation and configuration

InPhonic - Wireless Engineering and Security, Network Engineering, Systems Design and Integration
BITHGROUP Technologies, performed a Wireless Network Analysis with recommendations for improvement for InPhonic. InPhonic has wired and wireless networks in Largo, MD, Georgetown and Reston, VA. The Largo environment has both administrative access (laptops) and warehouse access via WiFi scanners. The analysis included both tactical and strategic components to improve the current environment and implement additional capability to support the requirements not met by their current infrastructure. BITHGROUP Technologies expects to do the strategic wireless implementation as a follow-on project.

JHU/APL - Wireless Engineering and Security, Network Engineering, Systems Design and Integration
BITHGROUP Technologies designed and implemented an indoor and outdoor wireless network for JHUAPL. The applications used on this network included wireless surveillance and secure mobile data acquisition via a wireless mesh network. The latest security available was implemented on this network for both the wireless mesh and WLAN portions. This network is being used as a prototype to determine how best to support mobile data access and security requirements from their sponsor.

Department of Energy (DoE) – Oak Ridge National Labs (ORNL) - Wireless Engineering and Security, Network Engineering, Systems Design and Integration
BITHGROUP Technologies is currently providing a Wireless Security Architecture consulting services for the Department of Energy’s (DoE) National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) Y12 facility in Oak Ridge National Laboratories, Oak Ridge, TN. 

BITHGROUP Technologies is creating both Functional System Design and Risk Assessment documentation for Y12 that allows Compliance with:

1. NNSA Policy Letter (NAP) MANDPP Compliance for the Unclassified Mandatory Protection Information Group Protection Profile.

2. DoDD 8200.2 Compliance with the Department of Defense Directive 8100.2 “Use of Commercial Wireless Devices, Services and Technologies in the DoD GiG, DoD Directive (DoDD) 8100.2, April 14, 2004” and it’s update memorandum of June 2, 2006. 

BITHGROUP Technologies has also facilitated the building of a wireless laboratory to implement and test this Wireless Security Architecture. This architecture will provide a secure wireless infrastructure upon which applications such as Secure WLAN access, Wireless Intrusion Protection,  Asset Management utilizing active RFID tags, Remote Wireless Cameras and Wireless Backhaul may be utilized.

New York and American Stock Exchanges Wireless Security Architecture Services
BITHGROUP Technologies has provided Information Security Architecture services to the Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC) in support of the New York and American Stock Exchanges (NYSE/AMEX). 

BITHGROUP Technologies developed a Secure Application Development Standard.  This standard encompasses the integration of Security in the Software Development Methodologies of both AMEX and NYSE including Best Practices and templates for developers to help get them jump-started.  This standard includes:

  • Web Server Security Practices
  • Database Server Security Practices
  • Secure C++ Programming Practices
  • Secure Java Programming Practices
  • Secure Programming Learning/Testing Tools
  • BITHGROUP Technologies developed the Nextgen Security Architecture platform.  This is a customized Linux workstation platform developed to replace X-Terminals on the NYSE Trading Floor.  BITHGROUP Technologies worked with development team to evaluate and recommend security countermeasures
  • Developed a Wireless Security Infrastructure for the NYSE Corporate LAN and NYSE Trading Floor.  Evaluated Wireless IDS and Secure Wireless Data products for recommendation for integration both on the NYSE Corporate LAN (CLAN) and the NYSE Trading floor’s wireless infrastructures.  BITHGROUP Technologies presented Wireless Security Architectures for both the Data and Wireless Intrusion Protection (WIP) networks to SIAC’s Data Security Review Board (DSRB).  Both documents passed and are being utilized by SIAC’s Audit team to ensure the proper countermeasures are implemented.
  • Performed a Wireless Penetration Test on the AMEX Wireless Data System (AWDS) Network.
  • Developed a Windows 2000 Platform Security Standard.  BITHGROUP Technologies utilized Microsoft Enterprise Services Framework to develop, maintain and optimize secure W2K server and workstation builds for the AMEX.
  • Developed a Security Architecture for the Intraday Comparisons of Equities (IDCE) project.  Recommended and help design RMISecurityManager and cookie vs hidden-field implementation to make application more secure.  General support on other architecture issues such as load balancing and database security.
  • Created the following publications: Wireless Security Roadmap, W2K Security Standard, Web Server Security Standard, Terminal Emulation (X11 Security) Standard
